New iPhone, Batman vs. Superman, and more in the week ahead

Today’s the day “tiny iPhone” fans. At 10AM PT / 1PM ET Apple’s expected to launch a 4-inch successor to the iPhone 5S with an upgraded processor, better camera, and Touch ID fingerprint sensor and NFC for Apple Pay. If you’re one of the 60 percent of iPhone owners who still haven’t upgraded to one of Apple’s bigger phones, or the 22 percent of Verge readers who consider 4 inches to be the perfect iPhone display size, well, this is your chance. We’re also expecting a smaller iPad Pro, some new watch bands, and more as detailed in our event preview.
We’re also expecting to hear another impassioned speech from Tim Cook on the importance of encryption ahead of tomorrow’s showdown with the FBI. The hearing related to the government’s request for Apple to cripple its security on the San Bernardino iPhone is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, March 22nd at 1PM PT / 4PM ET.
This is also the week of the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS), one of the top three US cars shows held each year. Be sure to check out our preview ahead of the live coverage set to begin on Wednesday the 23rd.
The week ends with the Friday theatrical release of the highly anticipated Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Directed by Zack Snyder (300Man of Steel), the film made its world premiere in New York City on Sunday night and stars Ben Affleck as a nipple-less Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, and Amy Adams as Lois Lane.
But that and more is all yet to come. First let’s get caught up on the weekend that was.
